Right after Canada announced its opening up to the world of online gaming, numerous online gaming operators grabbed the opportunity to integrate themselves into the new Canadian iGaming market.

One of the candidates most eager to get a piece of the pie is Betsson, a company that took immediate action to become a part of Canada’s regulated online gaming scene. Namely, Betsson has recently spent C$3 million in order to obtain 28% of Slapshot Media, a company in charge of managing localized sports content and other online gaming services in Canada.

The deal is exclusive and should enable Bettson to solidify its presence in the booming Canadian online gaming market. Furthermore, Betsson will get a chance to acquire up to 70% of the company, and the maximum price set for it is C$25 million.

Naturally, these actions wouldn’t have been possible without Bill C-218, which lifted the ban on single-event sports betting in Canada. However, the agreement following the Canadian provincial regulations regarding sports betting sites and online casinos was also vital.

The chief executive of Betsson stated that the company complied with all the rules and regulations and that this partnership would be a win-win situation for both the operator and the Canadian online gambling industry.

Thanks to Slapshot Media and its huge local influence, Betsson will get a chance to move up the ladder of success by establishing itself in the North American iGaming market. On the other hand, Canada will get the iGaming products from one of the world’s most renowned iGaming operators, which managed to accumulate around C$54.5 million in earnings in the second quarter of 2021.
